Fighting for Legal Transparency — Empowering You to Become Your Own Advocate
Our Mission
At Legal Awareness, our mission is simple: empower individuals to become their own advocates. We believe that access to legal knowledge is a right, not a privilege — and we're committed to making the legal system understandable and navigable for everyone, especially those who cannot afford traditional legal representation.
What We Stand For This May
This month, we are confronting one of the most misrepresented statutes in federal law — 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1). Commonly referred to as the "felon in possession" law, this label is itself a misrepresentation: the words "felon in possession" appear nowhere in the text of the statute. The law broadly prohibits anyone convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for more than one year from possessing a firearm — yet it has been applied in ways that raise serious constitutional concerns. Critics and legal scholars alike argue that § 922(g)(1) conflicts with the Second Amendment rights affirmed in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen (2022), which established that firearms regulations must be rooted in the historical tradition of the United States. We believe the American public deserves to know what the law actually says — not what it has been called.
